Ancestors licensees of Bridge Inn A READER asked recently if anyone had any details of the Bridge Inn, which was demolished along with the old Fish Market for the widening of Bridge Street in the early 1930s. Mrs Betty Wood, of Devonshire Road, Bolton, rang to say that her great-grandparents, James Ormrod Balshaw, and his wife Sarah, were certainly the licensees of the Inn in 1861 (he was previously at the Clarence Hotel, Bradshawgate), and that he died there not long afterwards and was buried in St George's Churchyard.
