LETTERS: Men over-represented in drowning statistics
Men urged to know their limits and to swim sober I write to ask men in particular in your local area to help Royal Life Saving in its mission to prevent drowning this summer. We know that too many men are taking unnecessary risks. They over-estimate their abilities and under-estimate the risks, and this continues to be our greatest challenge. Men are over-represented in the drowning statistics, particularly men aged 25 to 44. In the past year, over 90 per cent of those who drowned in this age group were males.
