Several economists slam government's decision to raise pensions as irresponsible ploy ahead of elections

The government has agreed to raise pensions next year, on average by CZK 750 a month. Since the decision became public on Thursday, several economists have reacted by saying that this is not the right time to increase the state’s budgetary commitments. Some have even accused the government of raising pension to attract more voters ahead of the October elections.
Finance Minister Alena Schillerová told Czech Radio that pensioners are a priority for the government and that the extra money has become available thanks to cuts in several other segments of the annual budget. In total, the rise in pensions is set to cost between 7 billion to 11 billion crowns.

Labour Office: Unemployment in April was lowest in four months

The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic fell from March’s 4.2 percent to 4.1 percent in April, according to freshly released data from the Labour Office. This is the lowest rate of unemployment registered since December. The number of jobs that were available in April also rose in year-on-year terms by more than 10,000.
According to the director of the Labour Office, Viktor Najmon, the coming spring period has seen a demand for seasonal jobs. Labour Minister Jana Maláčová said that the government’s Antivirus salary support programme also helped alleviate a crisis on the job market.
The areas of the country most affected by unemployment were the Karlovy Vary and Usti nad Labem regions (6 percent), followed by the Moravian-Silesian Region (5.8 percent). The Pardubice Region fared best in April with unemployment lying at just 2.8 percent. In Prague, unemployment lay at 3.6 percent.

Czech unemployment rate drops to 4.2 pct, second-lowest in EU

Unemployment in the Czech Republic fell by 0.1 percentage points in March compared to the previous month. Almost 306,616 jobseekers were registered in employment offices, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent.
That is the second-lowest rate in the European Union, Labour Minister Jana Maláčová (Social Democrats) noted via Twitter on Wednesday. The result is due to the antivirus funding programme, which provides companies funds and incentives to discourage layoffs, and an active jobs policy, she said.

Labour and Social Affairs Minister Jana Maláčová, whose ministry has been working on a reform of the pension system, will propose and amendment according to which women who have brought up one or more children should get an additional five hundred crowns per month as a bonus to their pensions. Czech officials in Prague 'hit by massive cyber attack'

Czech officials in Prague have been hit by a large-scale cyberattack, according to the city's mayor.
"There has been a massive cyber attack on public administration systems," Zdeněk Hřib tweeted, adding that the servers had "survived" and there was little damage. An immediate outage was made on the email system to maintain security.
"Thanks to the storage of multiple copies of data at once, we did not damage the data," Hřib said.
On Friday morning, he confirmed that the city’s emails were working and that there was no need to recover data from backup systems.
"It seems that we also managed to warn the city districts in time," Hřib added.
