By The UK’s four Chief Medical Officers have defended the decision to delay the second dose of the coronavirus vaccinations. In a joint statement, the medics said the 12-week gap between jabs means more people can be offered ‘substantial protection’. It comes as scientists at Imperial College Centre for Global Disease Analysis confirmed that the new variant of the virus spreads quicker meaning that the transmission of the disease was likely to have tripled even during England’s November lockdown.
