During the meeting, an angry Danko also said as soon as a mayor is elected to the city council he would make a motion to fire interim city manager Denise Bevan because she has kept open what he described as a baseless case accusing him of interfering with city employees. He also said he would move to fire city attorney William Reischmann, whom Danko accused of lying to him. Palm Coast controversies Danko's comments at the end of Tuesday's city council meeting are the latest in a steady stream of controversy connected to Palm Coast City Hall over the past two years.

The council’s split was evident on Wednesday when it met to authorize a special election and deadlocked on the selection of Nick Klufas as an interim vice mayor, a motion which ultimately failed on a 2-2 vote. The City Council did unanimously agree on the process to fill the vacant mayor’s seat, including requiring that mayoral candidates must collect either 497 signatures on petitions or pay $1,140 to qualify to run for the office. Palm Coast has agreed to pay $12,500 to its former human resources director to settle a lawsuit she filed against the city alleging the city reneged on a severance agreement. Besides the $12,500 settlement, Debbie Streichsbier will retain all sums paid to her after the end of her employment, according to the settlement agreement. The settlement does not specify what those sums were. But Streichsbier was paid $17,520 for accrued sick pay, administrative leave and vacation after she was fired from the city.
