San Joaquin Delta College and the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors have teamed up to allocate millions of dollars in funding to provide up to 1,000 students with paid internship opportunities. The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously at its meeting last week to match the $2 million in funds already approved by the college's Board of Trustees that will go to the Delta College Student Career Internship Program. Jay Wilverding, San Joaquin County's former auditor-controller, was tapped by the Board of Supervisors last month to permanently step into the role of county administrator. The eight-year county veteran sat at the dais for the first time Tuesday during the board's regularly scheduled meeting. Wilverding officially started in his new position March 29. "Welcome on board," Chair Tom Patti said after the board voted 3-2 at its March 23 meeting to approve Wilverding's four-year contract.
