Allowing the contempt appeal petitions filed by three officers, Telangana High Court on Thursday set aside the punishment awarded to them for disobeying a single judge order in a writ petition pertaining to acquisition of land for Mallannasagar reservoir of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.
The HC, however, directed the officials — Collectors of Siddipet and Rajanna Sircilla districts P. Venkatrami Reddy and D. Krishna Bhaskar, respectively and Siddipet Revenue Divisional Officer Jayachandra Reddy — to deposit in the court the fine amounts and costs imposed on them. The orders were passed by a bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy after hearing contentions of Advocate-General B.S. Prasad appearing for them.

Siddipet District Collector P. Venkatrami Reddy tasted the anger of Telangana High Court on Tuesday when he failed to appear before it in an appeal filed by him against punishment in a contempt of court case.
With a division bench headed by Chief Justice Hima Kohli declining to stay the punishment following his absence in the virtual proceedings, the IAS officer finally appeared before the bench towards the end of the session. The CJ declined to stay the single judge order despite repeated requests from Advocate General B.S. Prasad.

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has convicted three senior officials and awarded simple imprisonment to two of them, including Siddipet District Collector P Venkatrami Reddy, in a contempt case related to land acquisition for construction of a reservoir.
Allowing the contempt pleas by a batch of 15 petitioners, Justice M S Ramachandra Rao, in a recent order, held the three officials guilty of willful disobedience of the court’s orders related to acquisition of land in Siddipet District.

Contempt of court in Mallannasagar land acquisition
Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao of Telangana High Court punished two top revenue officials with simple imprisonment ranging from three to four months, after holding them guilty of contempt of court in a case relating to acquisition of land for Mallannasagar reservoir.
P. Venkatrami Reddy, who served as Siddipet district Collector till August 31, 2018 and continuing in the post from June 10, 2019, was awarded simple imprisonment of three months. The judge also imposed a fine of ₹2,000 on the officer while instructing him to pay ₹25,000 to the petitioners towards costs within four weeks.
