Days before Lucas Bellamy died in a Minnesota jail, a doctor who had treated him following his arrest had warned guards to return him to the hospital if he developed any concerning symptoms, according to a federal civil rights lawsuit filed this week.

“Lucas could have been easily saved with proper treatment,” the lawsuit alleges. “Instead, he endured a real-life nightmare and died.”
Lucas Bellamy, 41, was arrested on July 18, 2022 in Minneapolis. Bellamy, from a well-known local theatre family, had long battled drug addictions. He was found dead in his cell four days later.
Lucas John Bellamy died from an infection because there was a hole in his small intestine, according to the lawsuit.
