APM: Don't drive through floodwaters

PETALING JAYA: It is never a good idea to drive through floodwaters as it not only could damage light vehicles but can also be potentially life-threatening, says the Civil Defence Force.
Terengganu Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt-Kol (PA) Che Adam Abdul Rahman said there were daredevils in the state who took the risk, perhaps for fun, but warned others to not attempt the stunt.
“I can’t be certain what drives them to attempt crossing floodwaters in their cars or motorcycles.
“It is very dangerous, especially when there are strong currents, ” he said.
He warned drivers could risk stalling and being caught in the middle of floodwaters as they attempt to drive through. ....

KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood victims on the East Coast of the Peninsula saw a sharp decline, with about 5,000 evacuees still at temporary relief centres as of 5 pm, compared to over 9,000 this morning.
In Terengganu, 4,139 people from 991 families remained at relief centres, down from 7,780 people (1,822 families) reported at 8 am.

The state’s Disaster Management Committee Secretariat chief Lt Col (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said the sunny weather throughout the day had allowed flood victims to return home in stages.
He said currently only two districts remained affected, namely Kemaman and Dungun, with 27 relief centres still in operation, housing a total of 4,139 victims. ....

More evacuated as floods worsen in Terengganu and Kelantan


KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The flood situation in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia has worsened, with the number of victims evacuated to temporary relief centres (PPS), at of 8am Sunday (Dec 20), rising to 7,308 evacuees compared to 6,627 Saturday (Dec 19) evening.
In TERENGGANU, the number of victims increased to 6,305 people from 1,663 families as of 8am compared to 5,776 people (1,478 families) at 4pm Saturday, which led to the opening of three more PPS, making it 49 PPS in total so far.
Terengganu disaster management committee secretariat chief lieutenant colonel (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said Kemaman district was the worst hit with 5,108 evacuees (1,238 families) placed in 25 PPS as opposed to 4,729 people (1,135 families) Saturday. ....
