Michael Nunn IT'S Rivalry Round this week in the Intrust Super Cup and I am not going to try and talk down our competitiveness against the Easts Tigers. The Tigers are our closest rival, our neighbour, the guy next door. But the Tigers aren't that good guy next door. They're the neighbour that comes over for a BBQ but brings terrible beer and drinks your Balters. The Tigers are the neighbour that doesn't bring your bin in when he gets his or collect your mail while you are away. The Tigers have won 12 or their past 19 against the Jets with one draw. Although it is still a tight contest o...

Michael Nunn THERE are a lot of things I would happily go 12 months without doing like writing report cards or trimming those hedges down the side of my place. However, the Jets aren't one of those things I have enjoyed being without. One year and six days after the Jets and Blackhawks last clashed, round one is here and football is back for 2021 in Ipswich. After one game last year, it is time for hot chips and football at the North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday. The Jets and Blackhawks have clashed six times at the North Ipswich Reserve. Our northern foes are ahead four wins to two.

Michael Nunn THE Ipswich Jets have come back from the Sunshine Coast to prepare for a home trial against the Souths Logan Magpies on Saturday. This will be the Jets last trial game with the cancellation of the Jets v Hunters next week due to quarantine issues with the Hunters. The Jets Intrust Super Cup team lost 42-8 to the Falcons but coach Keiron Lander took positives from the trip to the Coast. "Our first half was very good. I was very happy with the first 40 minutes," Lander said. "I didn't make an interchange for the first half so the players out there got a good run.

Picture: Seven Sport Sport 24th Feb 2021 6:30 AM Premium Content Michael Nunn IN the 1980's in Brisbane Rugby League, Bob Kellaway's role was to truck it up for Souths, Brothers and the Jets. The lanky front rower did it for over a decade and played two Origin games for Queensland in a startling career. I braced for impact and poured a beer with Kellaway. How did you get to Souths? I was playing A Grade in Maryborough and I played so much rep stuff that last year that I barely played for the my club. So Souths noticed me down in Br...

Michael Nunn ON Saturday night, the Ipswich Jets will be off to the Sunshine Coast to try to wound the Falcons in their first trial game of 2021. Trials are a tricky beast to tame. You do not want injuries but you want players to start to blow out the cobwebs and have a run. The Jets will play the Sunshine Coast in all four grades with all four Jets coaches having things they will be looking for when they are driving home on Saturday night. Jets Intrust Super Cup coach Keiron Lander pondered his goals for Saturday. "It's our first hitout for the season and it's been 12 months so gettin...
