Mizzou wrestling rejoining Big 12 Conference
Mizzou
The University of Missouri’s wrestling program is returning to the conference it called home for more than six decades with today’s unanimous approval by UM Board of Curators of the program’s affiliate membership in the Big 12 Conference, effective July 1, 2021. The Tigers have wrestled in the Mid-American Conference since Mizzou left the Big 12 in all sports to join the Southeastern Conference nearly a decade ago.
“Mizzou’s wrestling program has always strived for excellence in everything they do, both on and off the mat,” said Darryl Chatman, chair of the UM Board of Curators. “This return to the Big 12 Conference continues that tradition of seeking excellence in competition. MU and the state of Missouri can be proud of the team that will represent us in a conference with some of the best wrestling programs in the country. I’m very happy for our team and wish them and Coach Brian Smith the best as they move to the Big 12.”

Well, for wrestling anyways.
The Tigers wrestling program announced their return to the Big 12, effective July 1, 2021 in a press release on Thursday.
Missouri had been competing as a member of the Mid-American Conference since their jump to the SEC almost 10 years ago.
"The Big 12 Conference has a rich and storied wrestling tradition, evidenced by the 50 NCAA team championships and more than 300 individual champions its teams have produced. This was an opportunity that Coach Smith and I did not believe we could pass up when it presented itself earlier this year," Missouri athletic director

Music City Bowl canceled by COVID scare

Associated Press
The Music City Bowl between Missouri and Iowa was canceled Sunday because COVID-19 issues left the Tigers unable to play.
The game scheduled for Wednesday in Nashville, is the second bowl called off since the postseason lineup was set on Dec. 20, joining the Gasparilla Bowl. Overall, 18 bowl games scheduled to be played this season have been canceled.
Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk said the team has had a “significant increase in positive COVID-19 tests among our student-athletes, coaches and staff” since the end of the regular season.
Missouri is the third SEC team that has had to pull out of its bowl game, joining Tennessee and South Carolina. Army was able to replace Tennessee in the Liberty Bowl against West Virginia to salvage that game. South Carolina’s COVID-19 issues left UAB without an opponent in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Mizzou Athletics announces $10 million donation for new indoor facility
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Athletics announced it has received a $10 million dollar donation from an anonymous donor to help build a new indoor football practice facility.
“The magnitude, impact and timing of this gift is significant as we attempt to advance the indoor football practice facility project as quickly as possible,” athletic director Jim Sterk said in a release. “As the SEC’s furthest-most Northern school, it is critical that our program have a full length indoor practice facility to utilize year-round, and this gift, coupled with the Board of Curators’ action earlier this month, gives this project great momentum."

Mizzou pulls out of Music City Bowl due to increase in COVID-19 cases inside program

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMOV.com) - An uptick in COVID-19 cases inside the Mizzou football program has prompted the team to pull out of the Music City Bowl.
An official announcement came Sunday afternoon around 2:30. In a statement, athletic director Jim Sterk said all football activities are paused until January 2.
"Since concluding our regular season and conducting four rounds of tests over the last eight days, we have seen a significant increase in positive COVID-19 tests among our student-athletes, coaches and staff, and after consulting with local health officials, our team physicians and MU Health's Dr. Steve Whitt, who is our representative on the SEC Medical Task Force, we unfortunately must pause all football team-related activities until at least January 2 to help contain the virus' spread and ensure the health and well-being of everyone within our program and the community."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Transperfect Music City Bowl has been canceled, after the University of Missouri pulled out due to a rise in COVID cases.
The game between Mizzou and the University of Iowa was set to take place at Nissan Stadium this Wednesday, December 30.
Mizzou announced Sunday afternoon that a increase in COVID-19 cases among athletes, coaches and staff over the eight days lead to the decision to pause all team activities through January 2.
"This eight-day uptick within our program is significant and has made it impossible for us to play in the bowl game, which I know comes as a disappointment to our student-athletes, coaches and fans, who were excited about the opportunity to play a great Iowa team in Nashville," Athletic Director Jim Sterk said in a press release.
