A JNU student has moved the Court arguing that elections are in violation of Lyngdoh committee recommendations and political interests have take over the process.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Student s Union (JNUSU) election dates have been announced. The JNUSU elections are scheduled to be conducted on March 22.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections, which have not been held for the last four years, will take place in March this year.
In a notification, the university said, “This is to bring to the kind notice of all concerned that the JNU Students Union Elections 2023-24 will be held between six to eight weeks after the commencement of the academic session for PhD students i.e February 2, 2024.”
The vice-chancellor s office also clarified that the new rules in the varsity manual released in November after the executive council s approval will not apply to old cases of rule violation by the students. "Any act of rule break after the revised manual came into force will be penalised as per the regulations outlined in the manual. The old and ongoing cases will not be examined based on the new rules," a senior official clarified.
JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh alleged the new proctorial rules are a step ahead of criminalising dissent; the new 'Fine Raj' has become a way to fill pockets out of the pain of students.

Those residing on the JNU campus will have to produce their identity cards at the entry, and have been advised to confirm their guests at the main gate either in person or through a phone call
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) on Wednesday alleged that some inebriated men in a car entered the campus and attempted to kidnap two students. It said the JNU security office has registered a complaint with the Delhi Police on the attempt to stalk, harass, abduct and physically attack students that happened on Tuesday night.
