The amount of property tax money residents pay to Kane County may increase from $7.47 to $33.35 next year, depending on the outcome of one of several remaining decisions county board members have to make about the 2023 budget.
Kane County officials spent months in the lead up to the 2021 fiscal year trying to balance a budget that forecasted a $14 million deficit stemming from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. But as officials began to close the books on the 2021 fiscal year this week, the county's ledger shows a $17.5 million surplus.
