A resident of Washington, D.C., is taking legal action against the D.C. Lottery for their alleged failure to honor a $340 million prize.
The operator of the D.C. lottery stated that the numbers were posted to the lottery's website in error as part of a quality assurance test.
However, his elation turned into disappointment when his claim was rejected by the Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG).
In early January 2023, John Cheeks saw that the winning Powerball numbers online matched his lottery ticket. But when he tried to redeem the prize he was told it was a "mistake." Now, he's suing.
