Cold front brings wide range of temperatures and chance for thunderstorms

KLKN-TV March 9, 2021 7:41 pm A warm front is draped across central Nebraska Tuesday evening.  Ahead of the front – on the warm side – temperatures are much above normal.  Highs made it in to the middle and upper 70°s. The warm side of the system will provide an environment conducive to produce showers later Tuesday night (near midnight and after), mainly in the eastern third of the state. There may be enough elevated instability to allow for a few embedded thunderstorms, especially for areas near Columbus, Ord, Norfolk, and O’Neill. Warmer, windy Sunday with higher fire risk

KLKN-TV March 6, 2021 6:47 pm The streak of fantastic continues.  Temperatures Saturday afternoon topped out in the lower 70°s throughout southeast Nebraska – reaching 71° in Lincoln.  That is Lincoln’s second 70° day of 2021 which is the highest through March 6 in three years. Coldest Valentine's Day in 85 years; Record lows could be broken next week

KLKN-TV February 13, 2021 7:30 pm The coldest air of the Arctic Blast is ahead for southeast Nebraska.  Much of the area could spend several days below zero – air temperature not wind chill – and wind chill values could drop to as low as -35° to -40° for the beginning of the work week. Immediately ahead is a cold Valentine’s Day.  Temperatures will likely not make it back to 0°.  This will be the first time Lincoln has failed to reach 0° in 25 years.  This also looks to be the coldest Valentine’s Day since 1936 along with being the second coldest high temperature ever recorded...

Getting "clipped" this weekend; Arctic Blast next week

KLKN-TV February 4, 2021 6:58 pm It is going to look and feel much more like winter starting this weekend (if it hasn’t already).  Temperatures will be plummeting and snow will be falling thanks to a series of clippers coming to the Cornhusker state. The first shot of snow is coming Saturday.  Upper-level energy is moving towards the western Canadian coast, out of the Gulf of Alaska. The upper-level energy will quickly move ashore and dive southeast towards the Plains.  Snow will begin falling over the northern Rocky Mountains Friday afternoon.  Snow should start to fall in northwest Ne...
