"He was a very kind and tolerant man," he said. "I was fortunate to have him as a boss. He left me to it and wasn't too prescriptive about things. He was that old fashioned sort of local journalist that is so rare these days. He knew everything on his patch." Nigel Kerton was his opposite number in the Marlborough area.
