Fatal helicopter flight due to pilot flying too low
Simcox crashed his helicopter into power lines near D'Urville Island on March 13, 2015. The crash happened at about 5.30pm when the helicopter hit a power line which spanned the French Pass. The impact caused one or both of the main rotor blades to come in contact with the cockpit, before the helicopter descended sharply into the sea, the report said. The Police National Dive Squad recovered Simcox's body from the wreckage two days later. An Aircraft Accident report prepared by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) found that Simcox had been flying below the minimum 500 feet height required...
