ESSEX must not become complacent in its fight against coronavirus despite rates falling across the area, the county's health boss has said. The latest Essex County Council figures show the county's weekly case rate in the seven days to January 28 was 295.4 cases per 100,000 people. There were 4,400 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Essex over this period. ALMOST 90 per cent of residents over 80 in north Essex have now had a coronavirus vaccine, new figures show. According to the latest Government figures, 88.6 per cent of residents 80 and above in Suffolk and north Essex have now received their first dose of a jab. About 73.5 per cent of residents aged between 75 and 79 have also had their first vaccination, as well as 27.1 per cent of those aged between 70 and 74. Coronavirus infection rates continue to fall across south Essex.

The latest data, which is for the week ending January 21, shows Tendring (667.8) and Harlow (624.6) have the highest rates of infection in the county, while Uttlesford (312.2) has the lowest. There were 6,949 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Essex in the seven days up to January 21. But despite a drop in cases and rates, Essex County Council insists they still remain “very high”.
