FIREFIGHTERS spent a combined total of nine hours tackling two major fires in one day, including at Kimberly-Clark. Crews were called to the factory in Barrow's Park Road after dust from machinery led to a a fire in a machine. Firefighters spent a total of six hours at the site, helping to extinguish the blaze and stop it spreading across the factory. A man in his 50s was taken to hospital after the collision, which took place in Dalton. Police said a Ford Transit van and Volkswagen car collided near to Billings Road. The North West Ambulance Service said the van driver sustained injuries not thought be life-threatening while the other driver suffered minor injuries and was not taken to hospital.
