Ipswich Town confirmed promotion to the Championship in style by romping to a 6-0 victory over Exeter City at Portman Road. The Blues raced to a remarkable 5-0 half-time lead, Conor Chaplin netting twice, and Massimo Luongo, George Hirst and Nathan Broadhead, a penalty, one each, before Wes Burns added the sixth in the second half as the Blues ended their four-year stay in League One in front of a delighted sell-out crowd.

Town have all but confirmed promotion back to the Championship after four years away after romping to a remarkable 5-0 half-time lead over Exeter at Portman Road, Conor Chaplin netting twice, and Massimo Luongo, George Hirst and Nathan Broadhead, a penalty, one each.

Grant Ward’s 72nd minute cross-shot saw the Blues to a 1-1 draw with Birmingham at a fractious Portman Road. Jonathan Grounds gave the visitors the lead three minutes after the break but Ward equalised with a cross which fortuitously flew over Birmingham keeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

Freddie Sears scored twice and Tyrone Mings and Kevin Bru once each as the Blues beat Birmingham 4-2 at Portman Road. Mings headed in his first senior goal in the 24th minute, Sears made it 2-0 four minutes after the break, before David Davis pulled one back on 57. Sears netted his second on 64, Davis grabbed another for the visitors on 79 before Bru sealed it in injury time with his first goal for Town.

Ten-man Town fell to a 3-0 defeat away against fellow play-off challengers Birmingham City with Will Buckley, Jon Toral and Maikel Kieftenbeld on the scoresheet. Buckley made the most of some hesitant defending to put the home side ahead on 23 before Douglas was shown a straight red card just prior to the break and Toral and Kieftenbeld smashed home stunning second-half volleys to seal the victory.
