[female narrator] this is how i remember it beginning. It was the middle of a hot, dry summer. Theres a light breeze. The sky is a dramatic orange. And its snowing. Except it isnt snow at all. Its ash, from a distant forest fire fuelled by climate change. Im not sure what surprised me more the ash falling with careless grace or the feeling that rose up within me as it fell. It was grief.
