Unsure of how to proceed with normal court businesses at the advent of the coronavirus pandemic, most court heads directed shutdown for the first two weeks or more in March this year.
Subsequently, after the Federal Government, through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 made public the COVID – Regulations 2020, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad took the initiative, in his capacity as the head of the judicial arm of government, to direct courts’ heads to scale down court activities as a measure to curb the spread of the virus.
In a circular, marked: NJC/CIR/HOC/11/631 issued on March 23, 2020, the CJN advised courts’ heads to still continue to hear certain cases while keeping social distancing and wearing face masks among other anti-COVID-19 measures. ....

Second Wave: Schools To Remain Closed Till Jan 18, FG Declares


The Federal Government has said schools in the country would remain shut till January 18, 2021.
The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also announced the closure of bars, night clubs, pubs, event centres, and recreational venues for the next five weeks.
He further urged religious centres to maintain 50 per cent capacity at all times and as well as ensure strict compliance to Covid-19 protocols at all gatherings.
According to him, the measures were important to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease as the country battled the second wave of the pandemic. ....

NJC recommends disengagement of Yobe, Osun judges


The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended compulsory retirement of the Grand Kadi of Yobe State, Shu’aibu Talba, and a judge of the Osun State High Court, Justice Abdulkareem Abdulrasaq, for alleged age falsification.
The body made the recommendation during its virtual 93rd meeting where it also approved the appointment of 69 other judicial officers to facilitate justice delivery nationwide.
According to a statement by Soji Oye, NJC’s Information Director, Talba was put up for disengagement after work on a petition by one Malam Zakar Adamu, Chairman, Movement for Justice in Nigeria.

The document claimed the judge doctored his age on two occasions, noting: “ First from February 1, 1955 to August 27, 1955, and later to December 30, 1959. ....

NJC recommends retirement of 2 High Court Judges for alleged age falsification

Abuja, Dec. 20,2020 The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the compulsory retirement of the Grand Kadi of Yobe, Shu’aibu Talba andJustice Abdulkareem Abdulrasaq, a judge of the Osun High Court for alleged age falsification.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Soji Oye, the NJC Director of Information on Sunday in Abuja.
The decision for the immediate retirement of the judicial officers was taken at the 93rd meeting of the NJC which held virtually on Dec. 16.
The council also recommended the appointment of 69 other judicial officers to enhance justice delivery in the country.
The council noted that Talba was recommended for compulsory retirement following an investigation into a petition against him by one Malam Zakar Adamu, Chairman, Movement for Justice in Nigeria. ....

NJC retires 2 High Court Judges for age falsification

Talba falsified his age on two occasions, i.e. from Feb. 1, 1955 to Aug. 27, 1955 and later to Dec. 30, 1959. ....
