COVID-19 challenges highlighted at Legal Year 2021 » Borneo Bulletin Online

Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong detailed the judiciary’s response to the pandemic and how “the judiciary has the responsibility to remain open and functional even during times of crisis”.
As far as tradition goes to mark the opening of the Legal Year 2021, the Chief Justice welcomed guests and addressed the legal fraternity at the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam.
He stated that the main priority has been to ensure the health and safety of its personnel and the public, while minimising disruption to services.
Despite ceasing some physical operations temporarily in the first half of 2020 due to COVID-19, the Chief Justice said, “With the help of technology, the courts were still deemed ‘open’ for filing, issuing and returning of processes and for making orders via our e-filing system.” ....
