The National Industrial Court, Abuja Division has barred the Police Service Commission, the Inspector-General of Police and Force Secretary, Nigeria Police from retiring DCP Simon Lough (SAN) and all members of course 20 (Force Entrant) of the Police Academy prematurely from the force. SaharaReporters reported on July 23, 2023 that a Nigeria Police Prosecutor, Simon Lough was still in office 18 months beyond the statutory retirement date.
Some dismissed police officers have petitioned the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to review their dismissal and correct the obvious injustice against them.

Some retired police officers have asked the National Industrial Court to immediately commit the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, to prison for disobeying the court order. The aggrieved officers are protesting the failure of Baba, to reinstate them back to service despite a court order to the effect. The officers claimed they joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996, 1999, and 2000. They said they were forcefully retired from service when some of them had not reached the age of 60 years and had yet to spend 35 years.
