UPDATE: A South Jersey man was sentenced today to 28 months in federal prison for trying to set fire to a police cruiser during a video-recorded riot that broke out following a peaceful protest last year in Trenton.
Killian F. Melecio, 20, of Columbus must serve just all of the sentence because there s no parole in the federal prison system.
Melecio admitted via video conference in U.S. District Cout in Trenton earlier this year that he stuffed a shirt he’d gotten from another man into the gas tank of the vehicle and tried to ignite it on May 31, 2020.

Man who attempted to torch Trenton police car during George Floyd protest pleads guilty

A man who attempted to set a Trenton Police car on fire during a protest that turned into a riot following the death of George Floyd last year pleaded guilty Tuesday, authorities said.
Killian F. Melecio, 20, of Columbus, Burlington County, pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to obstruct, impede, or interfere with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder affecting commerce, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said in a statement.
Melecio, and another man, Kadeem A. Dockery, of Trenton, were originally charged with attempting to damage or destroy by fire a vehicle owned or possessed by an institution receiving federal financial assistance and one count of attempting to damage or destroy by fire a vehicle used in and affecting interstate commerce, federal prosecutors said.
