Suspended BJP leader Dipanjali Kakati after her arrest on Saturday
GUWAHATI: Dipanjali Kakati, a BJP leader who was suspended from the party for allegedly assaulting an on-duty a police officer in Tinsukia district last November, was arrested on Saturday from her residence at Dirak Powai in the district.
Kakati had assaulted sub-inspector Apurba Das inside Kakopathar Police Station after the police officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the police station for questioning. “The incident was recorded in CCTV on the basis of which she has been arrested,” a police officer said.
Kakati had been on the run after her pre-arrest bail plea granted initially was cancelled later. The BJP leader has been booked under Section 332 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty. ....

GUWAHATI: Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dipanjali Kakati has been arrested in Tinsukia from her residence on charges of assaulting a police official.
According to CCTV footage, Dipanjali Kakati physically assaulted a police officer on duty inside Kakopathar Police Station after the police officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the police station for questioning.
Further, the BJP leader has been booked under Section 332 of the IPC, a non-bailable offence. ....
