Zim government declares roads a state of disaster Zimbabwe’s road network has been deteriorating steadily for more than two decades now due to the country’s consistent economic decline. Broad-based corruption at every level of society, including national and local government, coupled with lack of expertise and mismanagement has resulted in many roads throughout the country becoming virtually impassable. Some foreign investment, largely from the Chinese, has seem some major roads being resurfaced and expanded from single to dual lane. But by and large the country’s roads are in a dismal state. The government recently announced its intention to take over some 700km of roads countrywide from the local authorities. It blames the local bodies for “decades of damage and neglect” and says these roads will now undergo major works after years of damage and neglect. ....

By Ndatenda Njanike ZIMBABWE People First national spokesperson and youth chairperson Stephen Mazanza claims he is living in fear after his Kambuzuma home in Harare was petrol bombed last week by unknown assailants. Since the attack, the opposition told NewZimbabwe.com he was receiving numerous phone calls daily from an unknown person threatening more harm on him. Mazanza has been holding low-key campaigns in Ward 14, Kambuzuma in anticipation that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) might announce the holding of by-elections for vacant council and parliamentary seats across the country. The previous councillor in the ward targeted by the Zim PF official, Costa Mande, is an MDC Alliance member and was recalled after the MDC-T wrote to Local Government Minister July Moyo informing him he was no longer a party member. ....
By Anna Chibamu and Mary Taruvinga ZENGEZA West legislator and MDC Alliance Deputy Chairperson Job Sikhala has accused Speaker Jacob Mudenda of ignoring a High Court judgment that ordered the reinstatement of Tendai Biti and five other recalled MPs. Biti was recalled with five other MPs who were voted into the House of Assembly on behalf of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The recalls were made after a factional secretary general of the PDP general Benjamin Rukanda had written to Mudenda last month recalling the MPs. The affected MPs are; Willias Madzimure of Kambuzuma, Settlement Chikwinya – Mbizo, Kucaca Phulu – Nkulumane), Sichelesile Mahlangu – Pumula and Regai Tsunga – Mutasa South. ....
