A member of the University of Utah women's gymnastics team announced her retirement from the sport and withdrawal from the school on Friday.

Kara Eaker said she has recently contemplated suicide and self-harm and was recently diagnosed with "severe anxiety and depression" while also suffering from "panic attacks, PTSD, and night terrors."

American gymnast Kara Eaker has retired from the University of Utah women's gymnastics team, citing verbal and emotional abuse from a coach and lack of support from the university. In an Instagram post, Eaker revealed the toll the toxic environment took on her mental and emotional well-being, including severe anxiety and depression. She claimed her grievances were dismissed by university officials. Although Eaker did not name the coach, Tom Farden, implicated in a recent investigation, the report found instances of derogatory comments towards student-athletes.
