karnataka: Karnataka govt seeks Rs 17,901 cr drought relief funds from Centre

The Karnataka government has requested Rs 17,901.73 crore in funds from the central government to compensate farmers affected by drought in the Kharif season. The state has declared drought in 216 taluks and estimates a total loss of Rs 33,770.10 crore due to crop damage. The requested funds include Rs 12,577 crore for gratuitous relief to affected families, Rs 4414.29 crore for crop loss, Rs 355 crore for animal feed, and Rs 554 crore for drinking water assistance. The government has also requested an increase in guaranteed man-days of work under MNREGA to 18 crore.
