M. Shivanna, chairman, Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission, said the commission would submit a proposal to the government for a survey to get the exact number of Safai Karmacharis, including manual scavengers, in the State.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, he said the commission has data of pourakarmikas and safai karmacharis in ULBs, but has to conduct a survey to know the exact numberin industries, ITBTs and private companies. It has directed the DCs to form district-level monitoring and vigilance committees to end manual scavenging across the State. Contract UGD workers end stir after talks with Mayor, MCC Commissioner

Mysore/Mysuru: The contract
UGD (Underground Drainage) workers of the MCC, who had launched an indefinite stir by striking work on Monday (Dec.14) seeking regularisation of service and payment of daily breakfast allowance, withdrew their stir on Wednesday evening after talks with the Mayor, MCC Commissioner and other officials proved fruitful.
As the stir entered the third day on Wednesday, with Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman M. Shivanna meeting the protesting contract UGD workers in front of the MCC Main Office on Sayyaji Rao Road in the morning, Mayor Tasneem chaired a meeting with leaders of Pourakarmika and UGD workers association at the MCC Hall later in the afternoon. ....

MCC UGD workers' strike enters third day: Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman Shivanna meets protestors

Mysore/Mysuru: As the indefinite stir launched by contract UGD (Underground Drainage) workers attached to
Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) seeking regularisation of service and payment of breakfast allowance entered the third day today, Chairman of Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission M. Shivanna, visited the protest spot in front of the MCC Office on Sayyaji Rao Road and held talks with the striking workers.
The contract UGD workers are on indefinite stir from Monday (Dec.14) and have struck work since then.
Shivanna, who spoke after receiving a memorandum from UGD workers, said that he will be holding a meeting with the office-bearers of Pourakarmika and Safai Karmachari Associations later this afternoon and appealed the striking workers to call of their stir. But the workers were adamant in their stand and said that they can take a decision on calling off their stir, which depended very much on the outcome of today’s meeting. ....
