May 24, 2021 Share The Maharashtra government has prepared and submitted a preliminary “serial” nomination for 14 forts in the state in order to seek the World Heritage Site designation. The forts were all constructed on the theme of Maratha Military Architecture during the reign of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century. The Ministry of Culture forwarded the list to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after a serial nomination by the Archaeological Survey of India.
