The Kerala state government has announced that it will deduct one day's pay from the February salary of government employees who participate in the upcoming one-day strike. The strike, supported by opposition employee unions, is in protest against the delay in receiving dearness allowance arrears and other benefits. The government has issued an order stating that no leave will be granted on the day of the strike, except for emergencies.

The order also said no leave of any kind will be granted to government employees unless there is sickness of the individual or relatives like wife, children, father and mother.
