israel: In Israel's call for mass evacuation, Palestinians hear echoes of their original catastrophic exodus
Many Palestinians in Gaza fear that the recent call by Israel for the evacuation of half of Gaza's population is reminiscent of the mass exodus that occurred during the 1948 war. Known as the Nakba, approximately 700,000 Palestinians were forced to flee or were expelled from what is now Israel. These Palestinians, along with their descendants, settled in camps and built-up neighborhoods in other areas.
