Four private telecom operators Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, and Airtel owe an amount of Tk2,413 crore to the government which remains due as VAT on 2G spectrum fees and licence fees, said the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered telecom operators Grameenphone, Robi and Banglalink to pay Tk2,355 crore to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in spectrum fees and license fees. The final draft of BTRC's regulations for digital, social media, and OTT platforms allows the government to order individuals to take down content, empowers it to order social media companies to block content, and grants it indemnity for its actions under the law.
The information ministry yesterday submitted to the High Court a draft of the OTT (Over-The-Top) regulations prohibiting broadcast of news or talk-shows, except for the contents defined in the draft, on the OTT platforms.

New Delhi: The Bangladesh high court on Wednesday directed the national telecom regulator to remove all online uploads of an Al Jazeera investigation which claimed that the Bangladesh Army chief General Aziz Ahmed had been aiding his brothers, who had been convicted of murder.
