The National Weather Service is still investigating whether a tornado is responsible for uprooted trees and other damage near Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport during Saturday’s severe storms. Radar indicated rotation in the clouds as those storms moved through the area, but it’s unclear if the damage in the Skyline Heights subdivision was caused by a tornado touching down, or by strong straight-line wind gusts. But when I passed it by Joe Funk, the park ranger, he thought it was a great idea. I went for it and showed up at 8 AM one morning with pen and notepad. Gathered around the table inside the office building was Marvin Bartman, Don Hellman, Jerry Pagel, Dick Simmons, and Donnie Wolpert, as well as Joe Funk—pretty much the regular group.
