A little further to the north, it is a half of a kilometer at milan, you can see as we move the time ahead here, visible improving slowly as we head later on into today and then once we get into the early morning and overnight hours, we should start to see some improvement once we get into sunday. so that is something to look forward to, for sure. you see how visibility has been affecting things here, though, this is one of the cranes and just with the poor visibility in the water, some 30 cms or so, can you only see some 30 cms in front of your mask if are you a diver. the winds rather gusty as we were talking about right now. they, too, look like they will be easing into sunday. in the meantime, we will have the 30 to 40 kilometer gusts we are having to deal with. it looks like the waves will be ....

They first sent down the auv, they have narrowed the area down to where they believe they can cover it in a matter of a couple of weeks. but if they do not find something there, then you re looking at plan b. they re not going to rush into plan b. they re going to go away and think well, first of all, do we now have to search the arc between the 6 1/2 ping and the 6 ping? that s 300 miles long and 30 miles wide. so that s going to be a major undertaking. they re going have to regroup, as they did with air france 447, and which i suspect you did several times on projects you have done. did you look in huge, huge spaces like this could that could be hundreds of miles? oh, yeah. that s not uncommon. but i think these guys are in the right spot. because the pinger locators that they heard don t travel that far through water. the fact that they were a couple of kilometers away is amazing in itself. we usually hear those only a kilometer or two away. so you re not worried about ....

Seas, one to three feet. the wave heights. that will increase to upwards of maybe seven, perhaps up to 13 feet when this next storm system pushes in at this hour. already, a lot of clouds, visibility down to less than about a kilometer. less than a half a mile in this region closest to the actual point of where the vessel went down. but again, the clouds will remain here very thick over the next couple of hours. winds will be expected to pick up at 22 meters per hour. again, we expect it to get up to maybe 40 to 50 miles an hour. quickly, we ll compare the vessel as far as the historic wreckage when it comes to vessels we know of. the titanic measured about 900 feet across, weighed some 250,000 tons. you see the people on board there, you see the costa ....

Isn t given to raising false hopes. he said it is the next best option but it will be a long and tedious process. as i say, to search that for one day, i mean, if people have been to manhattan, for example, imagine looking for a laptop that might be buried. we re talking about these black boxes. imagine looking for a laptop that maybe built in silt in the dark over the whole area of manhattan. that s just one pass. they ve got their job cut out for them. i suppose their biggest hope is that they might find a large piece of wreckage. that will give them something they can work with. the ocean shield does have the assistance of hms echo. it has a two kilometer wide scanning ability. looking for anything hard on the ocean floor that could prove to be wreckage. the magnitude of this search operation is just extraordinary. hard to grasp statements. making holmes reporting there live from perth, australia. just after 3:00 in the afternoon ....

The batteries weaken. they don t stop abruptly. so if you can bring a vehicle or a probe down close, you can see it when you get much closer, maybe a kilometer or two away and then, of course, it s going to gradually turn to nothing. i have one comment, though, on the search area, i was concerned about the expanding search area but as far as i understand, that s for debris on the sea surface and it s a good thing to do. you really need verification. right now it s almost like dealing with a third party, the ping. and surface debris hindcast through good oceanography and meterology will help the search area. when you talk about the aerial searches because of drift, if there is to be debris, you re saying it would have ....
