ALOR SETAR: The Fire and Rescue Department has set up the Northeast Monsoon Rapid Action Team, which will be deployed in several specific zones, in preparation to face the possibility of major flood disasters nationwide.

Suspected addict believed drowned after jumping into river to flee cops

KLUANG: A 33-year-old man is believed to have been drowned after jumping into a river to escape being arrested by the police for suspected involvement in drugs.
Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Sen said that the police had raided an area in Jalan Mersing here following a tip-off on drug distribution and consumption activities at about 4.30pm on Friday (Jan 22).
"Upon arriving at the scene, the police officers sighted several suspicious men under a bridge believed to be taking drugs.
"When approached by the police, some of them jumped into the river to avoid being arrested. The police managed to arrest two of them," he said when contacted.
