The view of the giant sand dunes as you enter Ōmāpere in the heart of the Hokianga Harbour. The lodge is about a three-hour drive from Auckland city – four if you stop for road trip snacks – and has a beautiful vantage point of the bush, sand dunes and ocean. The trip itself hosts some amazing views as you snake through the Waipoua Forest, home to Tāne Mahuta, a giant Kauri tree. As you enter Ōmāpere, there’s a breathtaking view of the giant sand dunes that lie beyond the white sand beach.
