Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 4 (ANI): Hours after a BJP office in Asansol was allegedly vandalised by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday directed the police and the Kolkata Commissioner to end "senseless political violence, vandalism, arson, killings and intimidation that shames democracy".
He further stated that the Bengali diaspora across the globe has expressed concern over the alarming lawlessness in the state.
"Police @WBPolice @CPKolkata must end senseless political violence, vandalism, arson, killings and intimidation that shames democracy. Bengali diaspora world over has expressed concern over alarming lawlessness. Why post poll violence only WB ? Why this assault on democracy?" tweeted Dhankhar today.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday held a meeting with the top administrative and police officers of the state on the post poll violence in the state, an official said.
In the meeting, which was held at Banerjees Kalighat residence. she took stock of the situation, he told PTI.
Present in the meeting were Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay, Home Secretary H K Dwidevi, Director General of Police P Nirajnayan and Kolkata Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra, the official said.

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday said it has taken suo motu cognisance of videos purportedly showing women being beaten up in West Bengal's Nandigram after the assembly election in the state.

KOLKATA: West Bengal was in the throes of widespread violence on Monday that allegedly left several BJP workers dead and injured in clashes, and shops being looted, prompting the Union home ministry to seek a factual report from the state government on incidents of attack on opposition workers.
Videos of arson at a BJP office with bamboo poles and roof tiles burning amid worried cries of people running away from the premises were shared by the party. Photos of dead men, and people scampering with apparel looted from a shop were everywhere on social media.

New Delhi: West Bengal was in the throes of widespread violence on Monday (May 3) that allegedly left several BJP workers and supporters dead and injured in clashes. Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary on Monday (May 3) explained how Trinamool Congress is sponsoring violence carried out by its supporters and goons against those who cast their votes in favour of BJP in the assembly election.
Several shops were allegedly looted and almost thousands of houses were ransacked in Bengal, a day after the Trinamool Congress romped home, pocketing 213 of the 292 assembly seats that went to polls and secured a third straight term in office.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 9 (ANI): Ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday wrote to the state's chief secretary stating that "attempts are being made to use the postal ballot as a mode to ensure proxy votes in favour of the ruling party".
The letter that was written by West Bengal BJP leaders Mukul Roy, Swapan Dasgupta, Sabyasachi Dutta and Shishir Bajoria said, "We would like to draw your attention to an extremely critical issue that is plaguing the build-up to the first phase of voting of the ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections, of attempts being made to use postal ballots as a mode to ensure proxy votes/Chappa votes in favour of the ruling party i.e. the Trinamool Congress."

In a major reshuffle of the top brass of the police, the West Bengal government on Saturday transferred 24 senior IPS officers, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner.
Soumen Mitra will be the new Kolkata Commissioner, while Anuj Sharma, who was the Commissioner since mid-2019, has been appointed as the Additional Director General, Criminal Investigation Department.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], February 2 (ANI/NewsVoir): The Shree Cement corporate social responsibility (CSR) support for the senior citizens project Pronam got a boost in Kolkata with the formal inauguration of a fully-equipped office by the Kolkata Commissioner of Police, Mr Anuj Sharma, IPS, in the presence of film director Goutam Ghose and other dignitaries.
The Pronam project for senior citizens is a unique community-service model in India for the senior citizens of Kolkata. Pronam is run by Kolkata Police in collaboration with city-based non-governmental organization (NGO) The Bengal and Shree Cement has been supporting it since its inception in 2010. Pronam currently has nearly 20,000 registered senior citizens on its roll and there is a huge demand to expand its sphere and cover more senior citizens. During corona Pronam volunteers provided medicines and essential services to the elderly who were left on their own.
