A 15-year-old student of Korovisilou Village in Serua is believed to be the country’s first fatality on our road this year.
The incident occurred around midday yesterday, just days away from when the new school year is set to begin.
Police spokesperson Savaira Tabua said the teenager was on a horse travelling back to Korovisilou Village when the bus coming from Suva – carrying 15 passengers – collided with the horse.
She said the boy was thrown off the horse as a result.
“Due to the impact of the collision, the horse died instantly while the boy was rushed to Korovisilou Health Center where he later died,” Ms Tabua said. ....

Police are yet to lay any charges following that accident along the Queen s Highway at Korovisilou which claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy and his horse on Saturday.
Police say the boy was thrown off a horse that was hit by a bus.
The driver of the bus has been questioned and released.
Some passengers have also given statements to Police.
The boy was returning to Korovisilou Village when the incident happened while the bus which was carrying 15 passengers was returning from Suva. ....
