The Supreme Court of India has requested the names of eminent individuals to form a search committee for selecting and appointing vice-chancellors in 13 state-run universities in West Bengal. The court aims to resolve the ongoing dispute between the state government and the office of the West Bengal governor regarding the appointment of vice-chancellors. The court has asked the governor, the state government, and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to independently suggest three to five names for each university. The matter is scheduled for a hearing on October 6.
The bench asked the parties to complete the exercise of submitting details and the names by Wednesday, and listed the state government's plea for hearing on October 6
