Lobos Pound Utah Valley 16-2

Lobos Pound Utah Valley 16-2 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Justin Armbruester’s afternoon was pretty stellar, walking across the stage, diploma in hand after graduating from The University of New Mexico. His evening was pretty special as well. Armbruester looked every bit of the ace that he is, shutting down Utah Valley over seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out nine.  He received plenty of offense in the form on 16 runs on 15 hits as New Mexico clinched a weekend series over Utah Valley with a 16-2 drubbing.  UNM will go for the sweep tomorrow at high noon at Santa...

Lobos Drop Doubleheader to Air Force

USAFA, Colo. — Despite posting 16 runs on 22 hits through two games, The University of New Mexico baseball team was edged out twice by Air Force in a doubleheader on Saturday. In game one, the Lobos (9-22, 6-14 MW) kept it close with the Falcons (19-18, 11-12) and led the game through two innings before dropping 4-6. The Lobos played catchup in game two but made it a three-run game in the ninth inning, but the comeback was not enough as they fell 12-15. “In game one, our defense killed us,” said head coach Ray Birmingham. “Then, in game two, our pitching was poor.”

Lobos Edged Out in Series Finale Versus Fresno State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico baseball team started off hot and kept it close in its series finale versus Fresno State (16-19, 13-12 MW), but it was not enough as the Lobos were edged out by the Bulldogs 9-12 at Santa Ana Star Field. The Lobos (9-20, 6-12 MW) were led by Lance Russell, who went 4-5 from the plate with three RBIs and one run. “Fresno was a different team this time around,” said head coach Ray Birmingham. “They hammered our pitching.” The Lobos led the game through the first two innings scoring in both frames. In the first, Kyler Castillo hit an RB...

Lobos Swept in DH with Fresno State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico’s bat woke up just a tad too late in each game of a doubleheader, but it just wasn’t quite enough.  New Mexico twice got the tying or winning run to the plate in the ninth inning after trailing by six runs, but UNM couldn’t cap off either comeback, losing 10-8 in game one and then 11-9 in the nightcap.  The two losses sent UNM to 9-19 overall and 6-11 in the MW while Fresno State improved to 15-19 overall and 12-12 in the Mountain West. The two teams finish the series at noon at Santa Ana Star Field.  Both teams have not announced a starting pitcher.
