JEFFERSON CITY — In the rush to pay out supercharged unemployment benefits in a pandemic, Missouri has given out at least $150 million more than the law says it should.
It's not necessarily a big deal: that's just 3 percent of the state and federal benefits paid out last year, and in normal times, the labor department would reach out to recipients and have them pay the money back without much fuss.
But a growing number of lawmakers in both parties are telling the labor department to call off the dogs.
