Government of Canada invests in skills training to help get Canadians back to work

GATINEAU, QC, May 18, 2021 /CNW/ - The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on Canadian workers with many facing job losses and the need to upgrade or learn new skills to re-join the workforce. The Government of Canada has been there for workers and their families throughout the pandemic and continues to make ground-breaking investments to create jobs and help businesses come roaring back. Making sure that workers can improve or acquire new skills is key to achieving that goal.
Today, during a virtual meeting with stakeholders, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough launched Skills for Success, a new skills training program to help Canadians improve their foundational skills so they can find and keep good jobs. GATINEAU Workers are facing new challenges as the Canadian economy begins to rebound from the impact of COVID-19. Ontario residents need access to training and support to develop new skills to find good jobs in a post-pandemic economy.
On Dec. 10, Canada’s Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough, and Monte McNaughton, Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, highlighted that the Government of Canada is investing an additional $1.5 billion in the Workforce Development Agreements (WDAs) with provinces and territories.
