KOTA KINABALU: The high number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Sabah at 526 on Tuesday (Jan 19) is attributed to mass screenings by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) at plantation mills, especially in the east coast.
“Today, no new clusters were reported, state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said in the daily updates of the Covid-19 situation in Sabah on Tuesday (Jan 19).
“But the increase in new positive cases is due to mass screenings actively conducted by Socso at present at (plantation) mills, in particular those in Sabah’s east coast, he added in his statement.
The plantations are Ladang Baturong in Kunak (73 cases), Ladang GNG in Kinabatangan (15) as well as Ladang Matamba (20) and Ladang dan Kilang Segamaha (43), both in Lahad Datu. ....

Estate owners' association backs directive to screen plantation workers in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Estate Owners’ Association (MEOA) has supported the Sabah government’s directive for all plantation companies to screen their workers for Covid-19 after two new clusters involving estates were detected on Friday (Jan 15).
Its president Peter Benjamin said it is also the estate owners’ social responsibility to abide by the policy for the sake of the health of all their employees.
“We should not look at this as a burden and we need to support the government in overcoming this pandemic.
“Healthy employees will also help to keep the operations (in the plantation industry) going, especially since this is an essential service,” he said on Saturday (Jan 16). ....

Mass screening in estates: Masidi | Daily Express Online - Sabah's Leading News Portal

State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) hopes all estate companies in Sabah will ensure their workers undergo Covid-19 screening regardless of whether they are covered by the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

“More positive cases are expected in the next couple of days as Socso and the Sabah Health Department continue to conduct screening in estates,” said Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in an online Covid-19 update, Friday.
“The discovery of new clusters in two estates amplifies the need by estate companies to do compulsory screening on all their staff and workers,” he said, adding Sabah registered two new clusters - Ladang Matamba cluster (Lahad Datu) and Ladang ....
