“MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities,” the city’s press release noted. “In honor of Dr. King’s message and mission, Fourth & Hope, Friends of the Mission and the City of Woodland will host a service day at the East Beamer Neighborhood Campus at 1901 East Beamer St. Projects will include planting, painting and general cleaning around the housing community and emergency shelter.”

The program has provided high school students with hands-on agricultural learning experiences since 1993, according to a news release. 

In a recent Board Governance meeting, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors approved a total of $75,000 in projects using the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Community Benefit Fund.
