Accident. I think it was a change. And that's an accident. In Hyde Park Corner of Piccadilly and to pass on the West. And streets currently on the south. Eastern Street follow an accident and is currently on the exit. Only on the spawn site at the back to around keeps going back to east. As a result. Knife and local. While a very good evening hello how do you do it. Again we're back together and I am so delighted to be with you on Live and Local here on B.B.C. Sussex B.B.C. Sorry my son as always it's all King all things health and well being is a very broad subject that is why we can talk about some brilliant brilliant subjects like we're going to throughout the next couple of hours coming up tonight we will hear from Will Young he will be on the show he's going to be talking about his new music of course he's going on which is coming to Brighton but he's also going to be really open and honest about his are in mental health and some of the struggles he's faced since of course I was heady days of winning. Only too well. On the street the other day that was on with the T. Shirts of will. Isn't that he'll be on the show just after 9 o'clock tonight will also be talking to the National Citizen Service because we found out today the average age that youngsters flying the nest it's a really interesting subject we'll be talking more about bats a little bit like I said all 1st guest tonight is John Williams from DOT sign language in sand. In the news. Coming in going to hear all about. Yes very shortly. After a bad night at the. B.B.C. Sorry it's live in local feel fast a night. Kooks . 11. David Bowie let's dance because he said some big C. Sorry is coming up to quarter past 8 on your Thursday evening welcome to live in local with me Lois Mason is not so Pleasure as always to be with you because we talk about all sorts on the show we talk a lot about health and well being that's where we bring it back to you and the next subject we're going to talk about tars really nicely into this because what we're going to talk about can really affect someone's life in terms of their health and well being for sure and John Williams is going to tell us all about it from DOT sign language Good evening John how I find how you are really well thank you so much for joining us because I think there's so much to talk about and might be a subject that people unless they actively go and try and get involved in sign language maybe don't think about it too often you know that's right I think actually it's becoming more popular now in schools and primary education you see more signing going on and in children's television you may have heard of Mr Tumble Oh yes about Justin Well yes and I think children have taken that interest back home to their parents so there is a growing interest certainly in learning British Sign on which And that's what we do with Dot sign language we deliver courses in British Sign Language from level one the very basic level 6 which is equivalent to a degree course. And the courses are becoming more popular this September we've had over 80 students joining our courses but we also go out to workplaces and give them training in definite when assess and that we think is equally important because. Companies want their staff to be Jeff aware especially those who are a customer facing you know and the there are private companies public sector companies N.H.S. Providers a lot of them come to us can ask us to design a bespoke course simply for the image that will suit their stuff making their stuff aware of how they can help deaf colleagues staff customers deaf patients except So when we do a lot of that now and last but not least we work a lot in the community with the younger groups Brownie Scout Sky B. Visit cetera giving a maybe a one a 2 hour session on deaf when it's and that's always fun was a great deal of fun because lots of lively question and answer sessions for some of these young kids brilliant was really interesting you talk about the younger generation picking up sign language from an early age you talked about Mr Tumble of course Argo and nephew 3 years old this my sister his mom doesn't sign language because of the work she goes in so you so actually are see him you know with basic thank you in plays you know whether he's picking up with what's going on in the telling that he's watching as well actually just those little indications coming in early doors isn't so important because it becomes part of their natural language as they're picking up spoken English as well absolutely and for all children in their early years it's so valuable to be bilingual The more you understand and speak different languages before the age of 5 the greater your ability to learn languages later and there are a lot of deaf people 95 percent of children who are born deaf are actually born to hearing parents and that is a big issue you know as far as we're concerned in DART we'd like to see Deaf children brought up by lingeringly get their hearing parents to learn how to sign. I mean there's a brilliant little charity not far from here that actually provides funding for any parent who hearing parent who has a deaf child giving them found in so that they can actually learn to sign and communicate with their child communication is so important in the silly is well are from you know try and try my hand at French and German learning a new language is not easy it's very difficult it takes a lot of time and it's going to be just the same with sign language How long roughly does it take someone to pick up a basic rasp or sign language that you can pick it up very quickly we have done crash courses in level one. And people can become very proficient after maybe as little as 3040 hours the level one course tends to be about 60 hours and after that you do have or an ability to communicate basically with a deaf person you learn Greetings colorless family names transports exception you can learn it very quickly and to go from level one up to its highest level 6 if you young and keen you could do it in as little as 5 years was interesting because don't sign language you said right now it's a really busy time for you because lots of new students coming through those people who are taking on for the 1st time were stories you hear of why they are. The very varied a large number of them are doing it just for interest they've decided that they've seen information about British shine on which they'd like to get involved there are those who have a relative or friend who are deaf or maybe a work colleague and they really want to make a bit of an effort to try and communicate with lots of different reasons but all very valid and one of the main things they're learning right now what was of a well the start of points that we go for. One of the 1st things that we teach them is finger spelling there is an hour for BET called finger spelling that equates to a B. C. D. Etc I got it I finally got it well turn got a head want you to learn a little bit because I thought RB I would say B B C But my belly was wrong or I thought they were because you saw a lot of the fingers and American Sign Language think. I have a clue so I said yes 2 circles to go around a while I'm up from that is B. . All right this is what got the British Sign Language while you've got here on this sheet looks like American Sign. This important when you go on to Google or whatever you put in British Sign Language because British Sign Language is a language on its own you know it's it has very close ties to things like New Zealand language an Australian sign language South African sign language because of migration of peoples but American Sign Language is in effect it's more like French Sign Language or Irish on language so there are different sign languages around the world and people say well isn't that confusing why don't they all have the same one but when you think about it spoken languages have all evolved separately because we've been isolated populations and for the very same reason sign languages have a vote separately but if you put a group of deaf people from different countries all over the world together they will be communicating far more quickly than if you put people who had different spoken languages together because a lot of the signs what we call iconic they make a picture that says that that is the sign I can't show you obviously it's not T.V. But I could give you some signs and. I'm sure you would guess what they are for example . Yeah eat well I'll tell you I'll stop you that John because I know you said it's not so you've a what we're going to do is we are going to write our show is going to play some music and in the meantime I think we're going to film a little bit that we can pull off Facebook page and then people can say exactly what you teach me here we got. To. Their lives. LOL You look so bad. Sorry brilliant song but I didn't really hear any of it because I was having a lesson from John from the outside language and we just we did a little video which will be on our Facebook page in the coming days and you taught us how to say welcome to B.B.C. Sussex and B.B.C. Sorry which is wonderful so welcome was that one where I kind of put my 2 hands up and gesture towards myself kind of welcoming somebody and then to sorry or B.B.C. So we had the 2 circles together which is just looping your fingers into a circle almost like an OK sign if you screw but I think yes we're going to do it or you can do it like that with all our hands me so I C B B And then a see that you normally would expect and Sussex can put your hand into a saw in that segment drag them out stories Yeah story hound into a diamond then drag them to the side you say you want to be done on a video for you it doesn't work as you can have to come along for lessons I think so yes but we goes on basic stuff. And let's just touch on the proposed G.C.S.E. Before you head off John because I read about this because a young lad from Daniel from Suffolk a 13 year old can tell you right. I want I want to see in sign language because that's the language I speak and that's a fair comment isn't it really and certainly it Dot We do believe that any student to use 1st language is British Sign Language surely is entitle to study and to be tested G.C.S.E. P.S.L. It would be brilliant it's ironic that they can study an awful lot of other subjects that are rather maybe obscure I mustn't say that and then list them but they could studied as astronomy down. Heretics psychology Chinese. And yet they don't have the opportunity to study B.S.L. And yet British Sign Language has been recognised by the British government since 2003 as a U.K. Language along with Welsh English Gaelic nothing CORNISH And yet again no B.S.L. G.C.S.E. Which is I think a great shame I mean it would be a great opportunity for us to test a student who is deaf to see what their true potential is in a subject that is so familiar to them was where are we at with this answer what means to be done to Might this is recess or well. The government have been discussing with signature which is the awarding will deny zation the to credits British Sign Language qualifications they have been would King with them and no signature has developed a pilot G.C.S.E. B.S.L. And they test it in 2015 and they have taken it to Department of Education and off . And unfortunately it was a time when the government had said for many good reasons no more developments in G.C.S.E. At the moment but then Daniel came on the scene and quite rightly demanded his G.C.S.E. And I think it would teach the government to cool it didn't he with them fund. Funding coming out and I think the outcome was that they the government were told that this is probably illegal what they're doing an unlawful discriminate tree and the government then went where and said we will now do our best we will promise to look very seriously into developing this the last I heard was in February to this year they were still looking at it and have promised to get back to us but I believe with all the other issues that are going on at the moment on. Say the BE would but I can't see it happening before we have another election great shame because it has been on the cards and it is likely to take an awful long time but it will be a great opportunity for students who are born deaf maybe don't have the opportunity to learn sign so being able to do it in school would be a terrific breakthrough I think for them well we'll watch our space with interest John thank you so much for coming and telling us all about what you do if people want to find out more about thoughts on language and how to get involved was the Best Buy please look on our website www dot sign language and very easy to pick up there's lots of information there on courses you can follow any workplace training funding if you are a parent of a deaf child and you want to live and get on to a website now be a link said full a charity thing founded find you very much for your interest and for a washout. Graphics . Federal law a new spin me round B.C. Sussex and B.B.C. Series just don't help our states as they are it's alive and local Great to have John on the show soaking all things sign language I reckon a school is mean and stop sign I'm all right in saying that only deaf tutors are allowed to teach B.S.L. It was when I didn't level one now when we spoke to John about this just before she left she said Dot sign language all the teachers all deaf there's nothing stopping someone who isn't daft to teach it but is a bit like Knights of cheetahs might be better at delivering the subjects because of their experience but great thank you for getting in touch without any other questions of course about sign language you can find don't sign language on line. Now let's take a look out the weather is going to be a cloudy night tonight a few spots of rain moving in winds will be easing but a few missed patches will be developing lows of 12 degrees tonight's events are any lingering cloud all clear it's a dry day and lots of sunshine about smart gentle breeze around with highs of $21.00 we can get a little ahead of ourselves and look at the weekend any mist all fall will quickly clear on Saturday to allow for another fine and dry day for the early may still fall patches will Clay quickly again on Sunday morning to reveal another dry and often sunny day with a warmer Phil not looking too bad either the next couple of ice B.B.C. Sorry travel you trolls. Still came to the M 26 on a sponsor between. 25 it's Richard Roth and following not any accident he was queuing me for about 4 miles Patel ace easing travel time has gone down to around 20 minutes human traffic steam 25. Interchange at Junction 10 kids going back to common citizens following an accident only in typing mail from there as well but the nay still remain in short. And. You will travel updates 174 seats. Trouble you trust. And often and what will young. With mental health issues as well really interesting conversation with Will. Him a couple of days ago and we'll hear it just after the news from 9 o'clock on the T.V. Tonight also a 9 but also available on i Player afterwards so stick with me and go back there later Jesse Nelson from a little mix her program is called Jesse Nelson odd one out now this is going to be quite some watch I think she's going to be speaking about how online trolls made her contemplate taking her own life and it's a really serious issue that she's addressing there's friends of hers who are talking on the program as well but fundamentally a lot of it is coming from the heart of Jesse you know RIGHT BACK TO THE DAYS OF THEM 1st going on The X. Factor and The Amazing Journey Little Mix have had since then I've seen a couple of little clips of the program is a bit of a heart breaking watch and she said I'd lost quite a bit of weight when they were going to go back on to The X. Factor are you know when they get them back for a future shows to perform like the new single or something Jesse and little makes went back on the show and are trying to lose weight on the day before the days running up to a kind of start of myself to make sure I was looking in the best I could because she'd had all these horrible comments aimed at her online but the comments continued and Jesse says her mental health spiraled out of control this program is going to look right in so all of that so her ex-boyfriend Jordan banjo who's in diversity talking earlier saying people think sitting behind a keyboard and giving people abuse is a rights we would do in the street so why are you doing it online a very fair sentiment but I think it's going to break and watch it from Jesse but that is on tonight on B.B.C. One Jesse Nelson all one out state made tonight and Whatsapp back on i Player but good on you Jesse. Up to my colleague. Joe. Sorry more great music on the way before 9 including counter Mary's on a bit journey as well a bit of an eighty's Beltre But before that if you ever found yourself doing something at the same time as you're reading about it because I had this today and it was in a weird place when I caught myself on the train doing face gym Have you ever heard of this we talk about health and well being and making yourself feel good on this right I program and it's that time of year where maybe you've come back from holiday and you've called Best Song in the film nice and you know your cheeks lovely you think you know what my face looks good it looks you know tights and all together and only one pace while. It's now a couple of weeks later I keep talking about things that were politics on the T.V. The weather doesn't always do it from one day to the next and what come show that is life really isn't it so how would you keep your face in good shape or house reading this in the paper earlier there is a thing called the face gym more than 40 muscles form a scaffolding of the face and just like other muscles in the body the more you move them the more toned they become so there are exercises to keep your face in shape including the chin press up so I started trying to do this on the train earlier I looked ridiculous try to make a V. Shape with your hand and rest your chin in the V A K sander and say you're turning on you because you're thinking about it you pull your lip over the top teeth and hold for 5 seconds Repeat 10 times so you can our opinion now under no pressure up with your chin it's ridiculous there's also the fish pose this makes you look good in public as well hold your collar bones tilt your head back until you feel a stretch then open and close your mouth like a fish as if you were saying ouch now you're thinkin your just doing this to make me look silly on no this is all part of the face gym and making you fill so while a face when he come out of the gym needle a little bit of a burn out of it's maybe in your legs after you've been on the treadmill or spin lifting weights you feel in your arms now after these exercises you feel it in your face and there is also the eek challenge still holding your call about homes look ahead and say eek 10 times 8. I'm not doing it. It's not the other way you could my. Friends of course. Right now is Karen remain. In the Southeast you don't need loads of experience you just need a great personality and a story to tell on Saturday the 28th of September at the capital in Washington where holding auditions is your chance to get your foot in. Has been right explains it's highly unusual for a British leader to have to clarify whether he lied to the monarch one of the most memorable questions of Breck's it so far I think Boris Johnson insisting that parliament was suspended so that they could be a Queen's speech in the middle of October and he is sticking to that he would also careful not to anyway disparage the judiciary and judges and said that the best judiciary in the world so it played a straight bat but an extraordinary question to be facing the Supreme Court will rule on the case next week meanwhile Labor says M.P.'s must be recalled to debate government documents known as yellow house.
