Around a year ago, Tristan Smith, 23, was shot while approaching a man accused of shoplifting ammo and bungee cords at a Rural King in the Halls Crossroads.
Larry McBee also is accused of trying to kill a Knoxville man on the same day.
The case will head to a grand jury to determine if McBee will be indicted for first-degree murder.
Larry McBee has been charged with second degree murder and bond has been set at $200,000, court records state.
The 18-year-old suspect was found after authorities searched Knox County for more than 12 hours.
