A court decision to return a stretch of Sauble Beach sand to the Saugeen First Nation is being appealed by the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, which was not unexpected, but certainly not welcome news at the Saugeen headquarters, north of Southampton, Ont.
Article content South Bruce Peninsula is going back to court in hopes of fighting its convictions for violating the Endangered Species Act by raking, bulldozing and, the court found, damaging endangered piping habitat at Sauble Beach. The town’s lawyers served a notice of motion on April 7 on the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry that it will seek permission to appeal the March 8 judgement of Ontario Court Justice Julia Morneau.
