WARREN — A state fire marshal’s investigation into the fatal New Year’s house fire that killed a Warren mother and her son indicates the origin of the blaze possibly was a plastic tote on the back patio that held cigarette ashes from a party that ended just hours before. State fire officials have finished their investigation into the cause of a New Year's Day fire in Warren that claimed the lives of a mother and her five-year-old son.

WARREN — The city had no fire fatalities in 2020. It had two before the first sunrise of 2021. A mother and her 5-year-old son were killed and two others suffered minor injuries in a house fire early Friday morning at 2853 Woodland St. NE. “We got a call around 3:15 a.m. for a reported structure fire,” Warren Assistant Fire Chief Bill Monrean said.
